GA Southern Eagles
The Georgia Southern Eagles jersey colors are navy and blue. Their logo is a blue outlined capital “G” and “S” positioned diagonally from each other, with a blue and white eagles head sticking out from between the letters. The Eagles are members of Division I of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and have the distinction of being the only team to have 6 FCS national championships to their credit.
The Georgia Southern's men's basketball jerseys are a basic white crew-neck style with navy blue numbers and letters outlined in a thin line of gold trim. The front of the jersey has “GEORGIA” at the top, the player number in the middle, and “SOUTHERN” at the bottom. There is a navy band on the sides of the jersey outlined in gold on both sides, that starts out wider and narrows considerably by the bottom of the jersey. The Eagles have appeared in 3 NCAA Tournaments, and in 3 NIT's. The Lady Eagles' jerseys are very similar, though the numbers and lettering are more decorative in style on the front of the jerseys.
The Eagles' football jerseys are a nondescript, all-navy blue with white numbers, with no other ornamentation. Their pants are all white, and their helmet is navy blue with a lone white stripe down the center. Their football career has not been nondescript, though. Not only have they won 6 FCS national championships, they have also won 8 Southern Conference championships. They also have the unusual distinction of having a practice field on which the players have to cross a drainage ditch “creek” several times a day during football practice. This “creek” has been dubbed “Beautiful Eagle Creek.”
The Georgia Southern men's baseball jerseys are of an early- baseball- era style look that are all gray, with an interlocking “G” and “S” in navy on the right chest area, and the player number also in navy on the lower left side of the jersey. Although the Eagles’ baseball team played their first game in 1933, it would be 40 years before they would appear in and win the College World Series in 1973 (and again in 1990). They have also appeared in 11 NCAA Regionals, and have 1 NAIA Championship to their credit.
Georgia Southern University also offers several other varsity sports including: swimming and diving, volleyball, cross-country, golf, track and field, men's and women's soccer and tennis.
Some notable Georgia Southern athletes that have gone on to a professional sports career include Adrian Peterson (NFL), Michael Curry (NBA), Sorden Davis, Jeff Sanders (NBA), Rob Bironas (NFL), Todd Greene (MLB), Joey Hamilton (MLB), Fred Stokes (NFL), Kiwaukee Thomas (NFL), and Earthwind Moreland (NFL).
