Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons jerseys have changed many times over the team’s 50 plus year history. The team moved from Fort Wayne to Detroit, and began playing with a white uniform in 1957. During this time period, the team’s logo was a robot playing with a basketball. The next uniform change came about 20 years later when the team began wearing red jerseys with white lettering. During this 20 year period, the logo associated with the Detroit Pistons jerseys changed from the robot to a metallic looking face, to a red basketball with the team name inside of it, and eventually to a blue basketball with the team’s name in it in the 1970s. The team was fairly unsuccessful at this point in its history, and was struggling to sell tickets. Several key draft picks helped the team get on top again, and the 1980s saw a rejuvenated franchise with a lot to play for. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the team wore its famous lightning bolt jerseys, which are occasionally worn today. These jerseys are one of the most recognized jerseys in the team’s history, and the logo changed to a lightning bolt type font that spelled out “Detroit Pistons.” The team shifted between white and red uniforms in the late 80s and early 90s, and was able to win 2 World Championships. The team’s success brought an onslaught of eager fans, and the franchise’s success was helped by the team. Sales of jerseys spiked, and Isaiah Thomas’s jersey, Ben Gordon’s jersey, Joe Dumar’s jersey and Tayshaun Prince’s jersey were some of the popular uniforms that fans would buy. The uniforms would remain the same until 1996 when the Detroit Pistons jersey’s colors changed to teal, black, and yellow. The uniforms reflected these changes and also included the team’s new logo. The new logo was a horse named Hooper. The horse was located above the team name on the new jerseys, and continues to play a part in the team’s uniform. In the 2000s, the team’s colors switched to red, white, and blue and the team won another World Championship and had several years of success atop the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference. The Detroit Pistons jerseys were now white with blue and red stripes for home games, and blue with white and red stripes for away games. The team’s jerseys have remained the same for the past decade or so, and the logo has seen only minor changes. Throughout their history, the Detroit Pistons jerseys have changed many times, paralleling the team’s up and down success rates, but the team has always been followed by dedicated fans that stick through the tough times and cheer the team on to victory when it has a successful year in the playoffs.
