Chicago White Sox

Chicago White Sox jerseysChicago White Sox jerseys have evolved considerably since the team’s founding in 1900.  Predominantly using red, blue, white and black, the White Sox Jersey has been worn by countless numbers of baseball greats such as Nellie Fox, Minnie Minoso and Shoeless Joe Jackson. The early Chicago White Sox jerseys were a simple design of solid white with a “C” on the top left of the jersey.  Six years later in 1912, navy pinstripes were added as well as the most well recognized emblem, the small “O” and “X” encircled by a larger “S”.  In 1917 the addition of a small American flag to the left of the “Sox” emblem as the Chicago White Sox sought to show team support for the war effort. During the 1917 World Series, the White Sox wore a specially designed red, white and blue uniform to further exemplify their patriotic fervor.  1932 brought an entirely different look for the jerseys. Replacing the encircled “O” and “X” was a diagonal arrangement of “Sox” over a baseball ball and bat.  Returning in 1939 to the “S” encircling the “O” and “S”, the uniform consisted of a white jersey with a zipper-styled front and red piping as well as a navy blue cap with a white “C”.  The emblem itself was also altered by the addition of a navy outlining around the square-font lettering. During the era known as “Go-Go Sox”, the jersey underwent a design change, adding black pinstripes and red trim. The emblem was changed to a modified Gothic font with the “SOX” arranged to overlap each other in a descending diagonal.  1969 marked the first time in two decades for the pinstripes to be removed from the White Sox jersey. Now the uniform consisted of a white jersey with blue rim, blue sanitary socks and white stirrups. With another about-face in 1971, the White Sox Jersey exchanged the bright blue for red pinstripes on a white jersey, zippered fronts, red shoes, red caps and red stirrups.  In 1976, Chicago White Sox players wore brand new styled jerseys. Jerseys were solid white with “CHICAGO” spelled across the front in an arc, had blue v-neck collars and were designed to be worn without being tucked into the trousers.  1982 brought a unique pull-over White Sox Jersey made out of double-knit jersey. This red, navy and white colored jersey sported a bold “SOX” spelled horizontally across the entire front.  In 1991, the White Sox brought back a 1950s jersey. Black was once again the primary color edged with accents of silver piping. 1999 brought a comfortable sleeveless jersey as the final addition to what we now know presently as the Chicago White Sox jersey.
