Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears jersey The Chicago Bears jersey has changed many times since the team was founded in 1920, but many of these changes were minor alterations. For the Bears’ first season, the team wore blue jerseys that featured tan leather stripes sewn into the fabric. The team’s new uniforms were practical and innovative, and the leather stripes not only enhanced the look of the uniforms, but they also helped the players hold on to the ball by providing grip. The Bears are one of the only teams in NFL history to use uniforms that have a built in device that is meant to improve the team’s performance.
In 1935, the Chicago Bears jersey changed for the first time, and an orange jersey with black stripes on the sleeves was introduced. With this new uniform, players wore a black helmet to protect against head injuries. The team’s modern day colors were not introduced until 1958, when the team’s colors changed to navy blue and burnt orange. These new colors have stayed popular over the past 50 years, and are recognizable throughout the country. The modern helmet design was introduced in the early 1960s, but the team’s “C” logo was originally white. In the years since the logo’s introduction, it has changed in color from white to orange, and the font has changed to a more rounded letter. The logo was last modified in 1973, and since then, the team has used the same logo seen today.
In 1984, the team added the initials GSH on the sleeves of their jerseys in honor of George S. Halas. Also in 1984, the team introduced a road uniform that consisted of a white jersey with navy numbers, and a pair of blue pants. The next modification took place in 2002 when the Chicago Bears jersey for a Monday night football game was the traditional blue home jersey with blue pants instead of white.
In the team’s 90 plus years of history, 13 jerseys have been retired. This is more than any other team in the National Football League, and only the New York Yankees and Boston Celtics have retired more among other sports. Walter Payton’s jersey and Gale Sayers’ jersey are some of the more popular Chicago Bears jersey numbers that have been retired. Some other notable Bear’s names include Dick Butkus, Greg Olsen, and more.
The Chicago Bears jerseys have not had many significant changes, and the history of the current uniforms is as rich as the history of this well recognized franchise. The team’s uniforms have been present throughout the past 90 years, and very few aspects of the jersey have changed since the 1950s. Many Hall of Fame football players have worn these uniforms, and the Chicago Bears have had many successful seasons in them.
