Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames jersey is over 30 years old, but this well known franchise did not begin in Calgary. In 1972, the Atlanta Flames joined the National Hockey League’s list of teams. The team struggled for several years to find fans in an already full Atlanta sports market. With the Hawks, Braves, and Falcons all in the same city, the Flames found it hard to entertain in this tough market. Because of this, the team only played 8 seasons in Atlanta, and in 1980, the Atlanta Flames became the Calgary Flames. The original Calgary Flames jerseys were red, and they had two small yellow strips around a thick white stripe at the waist and both arms. The jersey’s logo was originally an “A” that appeared to be on fire, but with the move to Calgary, the team changed the logo to a white “C” with yellow outlines and flames coming off the rounded side of the letter. The new road jersey was red with the white logo and yellow and white stripes, and the home jersey was white. These jerseys were very popular among fans, and they lasted for about 15 seasons before any noticeable changes. In 1995, with new players like Al MacInnis, the team changed their look once again. The new jerseys were a huge step up, and they were considered much more modern. Not only were they made out of better materials, but they were also modern looking. These jerseys were black with red around the waist and on the sleeves, and a futuristic looking logo in the center of the jersey. In 2000, the team introduced new jerseys once again. These jerseys were similar to the old fashioned jerseys that were worn 15 years previously, and they were very basic. However, instead of red jerseys for the home uniforms, the team switched to black. These jerseys were solid black, with the red “C” logo, and white on the sleeves and near the bottom of the jersey. These jerseys were popular again, and sales of Jarome Iginla jerseys and other team memorabilia went through the roof compared to earlier sales. During this time, the team also introduced red alternate jerseys that were solid red with the black logo and black accenting. The team’s most recent change was to vintage looking jerseys in 2009. These jerseys were red with the white jersey, and they also had the yellow and white stripes that were popular in the 1970s. The Flames have been successful lately, and players like Olli Jokinen have helped the team to several playoff experiences. The team has also seen young stars like Mikael Backlund become popular very quickly. Because of these kinds of players, the team has hope for the upcoming seasons, and fans are excited about a possible playoff run in the near future.
