Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox jerseysThe Boston Red Sox jerseys are saturated with tradition and history. The team started in 1901, and changed its name to the Boston Red Sox in 1908. The team competed for the fans’ attention with the Boston Braves for the first few years of its existence. The team originally had blue colors in its jersey instead of red, and had lace around the neck of the jersey. This was an item that very few teams had, and it was considered old fashioned at the time. A few years later, the Boston Red Sox jersey eliminated the lace neckline, and the uniforms colors were changed to white and red. During this time period, the team began wearing red stockings, which led to the team’s new nickname, the Boston Red Sox. In 1915, Babe Ruth came to the team, and the Boston Red Sox jersey changed to an unlettered uniform. In 1918, the Red Sox added a road uniform that had tight pin stripes and the team name stitched into it. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 1918, but went on to have 86 years without a championship. In 1923, the team tried to change its spiraling level of play by modifying the road uniforms with wider striping. Through the next 80 years, the team saw a number of extremely talented players trade their Boston Red Sox jerseys for New York Yankees jerseys, and other rival teams. The team was on its way down, and the fans were reluctant to put up with a struggling franchise. Throughout these years, the jersey remained relatively unchanged, and the team’s level of success was still low. In 2004, the Boston Red Sox jersey and logo saw another minor change, and fans were hopeful for another successful season. During this season of ups and downs, the fans began to get excited for a possible postseason run. The Boston Red Sox ended up facing their bitter rivals, the New York Yankees, in the playoffs, and a historic 4 game comeback led by players like Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek, helped propel the Red Sox to a World Series Championship. Many successful players have donned the Boston Red Sox jerseys, and several players have been lucky enough to have their jerseys retired by the franchise. Some of the more popular jerseys include Ted William’s jersey, David Ortiz’s jersey, and others. As of 2010, the Boston Red Sox jerseys were one of just a few uniforms in the league to still be missing names on the uniforms. Players are still recognized by number and face alone, and the jersey continues to be relatively unchanged. The one thing that has recently changed, is that the team’s success level has been fairly high recently, and the team is more competitive in the Major League Baseball league.
