Atlanta Thrashers

thrashers jerseysThe Atlanta Thrashers jerseys are fairly modern, and they have changed very little since the team joined the National Hockey League in 1999. The team began in 1999 in the NHL’s Eastern Conference. The team plays in Atlanta, Georgia, and has a growing fan base among the population nearby. Because there are very few hockey teams near Georgia, the team has the possibility of becoming one of the largest fan bases in the Southeastern region. The Atlanta Thrashers started with light and dark blue jerseys for home games, white jerseys with dark blue accents for away games, and a dark red and white jersey for an alternate jersey. The team’s logo is named after Georgia’s state bird, the brown thrasher, and consists of an orange colored bird with a hockey stick. This logo has remained unchanged since the team was founded, and is still in place on the team’s jerseys. In fact, the team’s jerseys have not seen any significant changes since 1999, and the team continues to wear the same jerseys that were worn when the team was created. The only difference is that the jerseys are now made of a lighter material that is better for the players’ mobility. The team had a rough start in the NHL, and they finished in last place in the NHL in their first season, but because of this, they were able to get high draft picks in the following year’s draft, and the team drafted young players to play alongside Ilya Kovalchuk. The Thrashers continued to struggle until the 2006-2007 season, when the Thrashers won the Southeast division of the NHL’s Eastern Conference. This successful season ended with a disappointing playoff sweep at the hand of the New York Rangers, and it left the Atlanta Thrashers still searching for a playoff win. In subsequent years, the team acquired Bill Lindsay who added experience to the team, and many other players that have helped the Thrashers become a league wide threat once again. Bryan Adams and other former Thrashers have continued their careers elsewhere, but have been unsuccessful for the most part. The team continues to search for that breakout year, but fans are hopeful with the recent acquisition of Tobias Entrom, the team’s new captain, and other players that have Stanley Cup Playoff experience with the Chicago Blackhawks. Although the Thrashers jerseys have not changed since the team was formed, the team wearing the jerseys has changed immensely, and has continued to mature at an alarming rate. Fans in the area are excited for the upcoming Thrashers’ seasons, and the 2010-2011 season will likely be the season in which the team breaks its postseason futility streak, and returns to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time.
