He went to Apopka High School and was named as the Gatorade National Player of the Year during his senior year. Deciding to forego with college and turning down a scholarship offered by Clemson University, Greinke entered the 2002 MLB Draft. Greinke was one of those ballplayers who were picked during the first round of the draft.
He started his professional baseball career by playing for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Wichita Wranglers of the minor leagues. During that season, he posted a 15-4 record and a 1.93 earned run average that earned him the Royals Minor League Pitcher of the Year award, the Carolina League Pitcher of the Year award and The Sporting News Minor League Player of the Year.
After making his MLB debut in 2004, Greinke was named into his first All-Star selection in 2009. He was also hailed as that year’s ERA Champion with a 0.50 ERA and the TSN Pitcher of the Year. For that season, Greinke was also named as the 2009 AL Pitcher of the Year, the AL Bullet Togan awardee and the AL Cy Young awardee.
