About Woody Hayes Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles
Woody Hayes was a college football player and served as coach for a number of colleges primarily Ohio State. He was born in Clifton, Ohio and was the coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes for a total of 28 seasons. Hayes was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983 as a coach.
Hayes attended Newcomerstown High School in Ohio before enrolling in Denison University. While in Denison, Hayes occupied the offensive tackle position. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Hayes took a coaching job at his Alma Mater. After a 19-game winning streak, Hayes was offered the head coach job at Miami University. While at Miami, Hayes led the team to a 9-1 overall record and to a Salad Bowl win during the 1950 season.
He left Miami to become head coach at Ohio State University. He spent 28 seasons as head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes. From the 5th place during his first year of coaching the Buckeyes in 1951, Hayes was able to lead the team to its first Rose Bowl victory in 1954. Under his guidance, the Buckeyes were able to play in a total of eight Rose Bowls and win a total of three.
