Winky Wright, who was born as Ronald Lamont Wright, is an American professional middleweight boxer. He was born in Washington, D.C. Before stepping in for his pro boxing career, Wright began to fight in the amateur division in 1989. Wright made his professional boxing debut in 1992 in a match against Carlos Santana where Wright won via second round knockout. Wright was however, not promoted immediately by big time promoters such as Don King and Lou Duva during the early part of his career.

Wright’s first promoters were the Acaries brothers, who arranged a deal for Wright to fight Darryl Lattimore in Luxembourg on January 1, 1993 in a match where Wright emerged victorious. Wright received his first title match on August 21, 1994, against WBA Light Middleweight champion Julio César Vásquez where Winky lost a unanimous decision. And on February 4, 1995, Wright defeated Tony Marshall winning the NABF Middleweight title.

After Félix Trinidad left the IBF junior middleweight title vacant, Wright won his first major boxing championship scoring out a unanimous decision over Robert Frazier on October 12, 2001. Wright's had his Las Vegas debut on March 1, 2003 against Juan Carlos Candelo where Wright won a unanimous decision, which is then followed that up with another blowout victory against Angel Hernandez eight months later.
