A former American basketball player, Willis Reed was born in Bernice, Louisiana on June 25, 1942. He spent his entire career with the team New York Knicks.
Immediately, Reed made an impact playing for Knicks. He scored 46 points versus Los Angeles Lakers in March 26 which was considered as the second highest single-game total performed by a Knicks Rookie. For the same season, he obtained 19.5 points and 14.7 rebound per game, ranking seventh and fifth in the NBA scoring and rebounding, respectively. He was also established as the year’s NBA Rookie.
During the 1969-70 seasons, Reed had contributed much on the success of the New York Knicks. Moreover, he became the NBA history’s first player to earn all three awards in a particular season. The said honors were the NBA All-Star Game MVP, the NBA Regular Season MVP and NBA Playoffs MVP. Still of the same year, he was acknowledged as a member of the All-NBA first team and All-Defensive first team of the NBA. To add, he was entitled to Athlete of the Year award of ABC’s Wide World Sports. His most popular performance was in May 8 1970 in their NBA Finals 7th Game versus Los Angeles Lakers which was held in Madison Square Garden. The Knicks also have won their first NBA title on that same season with a 113-99 record. At present, Willis Reed is the Basketball Operation’s Vice President for the New Orleans Hornets.
