Willie Wood is a former American pro football athlete who hailed from Washington, DC. He took his college education attending the University of Southern California. Throughout his entire eleven year career, Wood played as safety for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League. Wood was not drafted by any NFL team. Wood had a try out for the Packers who eventually signed him as free agent in 1960. Wood was recast as free safety, and then became a starter in that season.
Wood was a free safety starter in Super Bowl I against the Kansas City Chiefs where he recorded an interception that aided the Packers put the game away in the second half. During the Super Bowl II, versus the Oakland Raiders, Wood returned five punts for thirty five yards.
Wood made a lot of achievements during his career with the Packers from his debut in 1960 up to his retirement in 1971, being a Pro Bowl selection for eight times, five-time Associated Press All Pro selection first team, two time Associated Press All Pro selection second team, Three-time NFL champion and two time Super Bowl champion. Wood was also inducted to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

Willie Wood (fullname: William Vernell Wood; no nicknames) played Defensive Back from 1960 until 1971 for the Green Bay Packers. He played 166 games, intercepted 48 passes and recovered 16 fumbles. Born in Washington, DC on December 23, 1936, Wood stands 5'10 and weighs 190 lbs. He attended college at USC. Wood was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989, finalist in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985.
