Wilbert Robinson, nicknamed “Uncle Robbie,” is a former American professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Robinson batted and threw with his right and played as catcher for several teams in the major leagues; the Philadelphia Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and the St. Louis Cardinals. After his playing career from 1886 to 1902, Robinson became manager for two teams in the majors; the Baltimore Orioles and the Brooklyn Robins.
Before he could make it to the major leagues, Robinson made a few stint in the minor New England League in 1885. A year after in the minors he joined the Major League Baseball playing for the Philadelphia Athletics. Robinson made his debut on April 19, 1886 with the Athletics, where he stayed until 1890 after which he joined the Baltimore Orioles from 1890 to 1899. He left the Orioles in 1990 to join the St. Louis Cardinals for a season, after that he came back to the Orioles in 1901 up to 1902. Robinson’s last game with the Orioles was on September 29, 1902. Throughout his entire playing career, Robinson played as catcher for 1,316 games. This career highlight had truly prepared him for his second baseball career as a manager.
