Carroll Walter "Whitey" Lockman was a player, coach, manager and front office executive in American Major League Baseball. He finished with a career major league managing record of 157-162 (.492).
 
He was linked to Leo Durocher and to Bobby Thomson. On October 3, 1951, Lockman scored the tying run, just ahead of Bobby Thomson, on Thomson's home run. Bobby Thomson is a Scottish former Major League Baseball outfielder and right-handed batter. On the other hand, in July 1972, he succeeded his old mentor, Leo Durocher, as Cubs' manager. Leo Durocher was ranked fifth all-time among managers with 2,009 career victories.

About Whitey Lockman:

Whitey Lockman (full name: Carroll Walter Lockman; no nicknames) played first baseman and leftfielder from 1945 until 1960 for the New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Redlegs. He played for the Giants from 1945 - 1958, Cardinals in 1956, Orioles in 1959 and Redlegs from 1959 - 1960. Over 15 seasons, he played 1666 games, hit 114 home runs, drove in 836 runs, and stole 43 bases. Born on July 25, 1926 in Lowell, NC, Lockman stood 6' 1" and weighed 175 lb. He attended Gastonia (Gastonia, NC) high school. His debut was on July 5, 1945 and he played his final game on June 24, 1960. Common misspellings of his name include Carroll Walter Whitey whity Lockman.
