With a 12 year career for only the New York Jets, Wesley Darcel Walker made a mark on the National Football League. He played as a football wide receiver from 1977- 1989.
Walker was born on May 26, 1955 in San Bernardino, California. He attended Carson High School where he achieved many receiver records. In college at the University of California, he was part of the All- American.
He was famous for his agility and has a career average of 19 yards per reception. He overcame his handicap, having one legally blind eye; he became one of the Jets’ all- time stellar receivers. When he retired, he was recognized as the second in the New York Jets’ all- time receiving yardage.
He was inducted to the Pro Bowl twice, in 1978 and 1982. He was awarded with the New York Jets MVP in 1978. Also in 1982, Walker was one of the dominant figures for the season. His plays were crucial to the Jets’ win against the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Raiders.
1983 was his best receiving season and together with quarterback Ken O’Brien, they led the Jets to a win against the Miami Dolphins. After retirement, he works as a teacher at Park View Elementary School and occasionally serves as a sports radio show commentator. His 2 sons are outstanding lacrosse players and father- in- law to track and field star Carl Florant.
