Wayne Monte Rollins is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He was born on June 16, 1955 in Winter Haven, Florida. His nickname was “Tree” and was best known for his defensive skills on the hard court. He played college basketball with the Clemson University Tigers.
Rollins was the first Clemson basketball player to join an AP All- American Team and was inducted to the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1987. On June 10, 1977, Rollins was selected as the 14th overall draft pick in the first round of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. In his 11- season career with the Hawks, he earned a spot in the NBA All- Defensive Team in two consecutive seasons. Upon entering free agency, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After two seasons there, he signed as a free agent with the Detroit Pistons after which he joined the Houston Rockets for 3 years. In 1994, he joined the Orlando Magic where he worked as an assistant coach while playing for the team. Upon retirement, he worked as a coach at the National Basketball Developmental League and at the Women’s National Basketball Association. He recorded 6,750 rebounds, 2,542 blocks, 660 assists, and 6,249 points in 1,156 games.
