American Football player
Wayne Chrebet is one of the most established popular New York Jets players in the team’s history. He played 11 seasons as a New York Jets wide receiver in the National Football League from 1995 to 2005. He was born in Garsfield, New Jersey on August 14, 1973.
Chrebet played for the Hofstra University and became its first 1, 000-yard receiver in 1994. He was also a member of the inaugurated class inductee of the Hofstra University Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1998 and 2002, Chrebet helped the New York Jets win the East Division of the American Football Conference. Among the many achievements of Wayne Chrebet are the Jet of the Year award of New York Newsday in 1995, an honor which was voted in by the readers of the said paper, the Unsung Hero award of the New York Jets in 1997 and the Jets Player of the Year award of the
New York Jets Alumni Association in 2001.
Even with already nine instances of suffering concussions or mild traumatic brain injury, Chrebet still continued playing professional football. In 1999, he took a break due to a broken bone in his foot while in Jets’ exhibition finale against MIN. However, on a November 6, 2005 game versus the
San Diego Chargers, Chrebet’s career came to a halt. He then had an official announcement of his retirement in a ceremony on June 2, 2006.
