Walter “Walt” Andre Williams is a former professional basketball player who played for several teams in the National Basketball Association. The Wizard, as he was called, was one of the best shooters in the league during his time. He played college basketball at the University of Maryland and made the then suffering basketball program of the university lively again.
During his senior year at Maryland, Williams was named on the Associated Press All- America Second Team and set a school record that time. He started his professional career when the Sacramento Kings drafted him as 7th overall in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft. In his first season with the Kings, he was selected to become a member of the All- Rookie Second Team. On January 1, 1993, in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers, he became the 2nd rookie in Sacramento to score 40 points. Williams was then traded to the Miami Heat. Upon entering free agency, he signed with the Toronto Raptors. In 1997, he participated in AT&T Shootout in the All- Star weekend in Cleveland. In 1998, he was traded off to the Portland Trail Blazers. Before retiring, he also spent a short stint playing for the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks. He has a field goal career- high of 13 which he did twice.
