Vincent Francis Papale is a retired professional football player who hails from Chester, Pennsylvania. He is a former football varsity athlete at Interboro High School where he also starred as a track and field and basketball athlete. As a football player in the said school, he was given the recognition of being an All-Delaware County Honorable Mention.
In college, he played track and field at the St. Joseph’s College. He began concentrating on football as a part of the Seaboard Football League and moved up to the World Football League where he played for the Philadelphia Bell. He served as a wide receiver for the said team and recorded 121 yards passes and became an instant star of the team.
He entered the National Football League as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Papale was considered as the oldest rookie in the league because he started at the age of 30. In his rookie season, he appeared in 41 games and posted two fumble recoveries for his team. Because of his terrific performances, he was voted by his team mates as the Special Teams Captain. In 1978, the Philadelphia Eagles awarded him as the Man of the Year. He finished his professional football career in 1979 after sustaining an injury during a game.
After retirement, he went to broadcasting and is currently working for the Sallie Mae as a regional director.
