Playing in the Major League Baseball as an outfielder for the Cleveland Indians is American professional baseball player Trot Nixon. He was born on April 11, 1974 in Durham, North Carolina.
While attending New Hanover High School, Nixon was awarded State player of the year for both football and baseball. As a baseball player, he was also laurelled as Baseball America Magazine’s School Player of the Year. Nixon was also his team’s key of bagging a State 4A title. In 1993, he was acquired by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the amateur draft. And on September 21, 1996, he made his debut in the Major League Baseball, still for the Red Sox. He had his career peak in 2003 when he was able to bat .306 coupled with 24 doubles and 28 home runs. The following season however saw a limited appearance of Nixon as he suffered to a herniated disc and a tight thigh muscle for months. He made his comeback playing as a starting right fielder.
Playing for the Red Sox, Nixon captivated fans when he along with other team members wore a Mohawk hairstyle, one of the weird hairstyles the Red Sox sported during the 2004 season. Nixon is someone who isn’t afraid of getting dirty just to win a game. Thus, he is an inspiration for the expression, “Boston Dirt Dogs.” He signed for the Cleveland Indians when Red Sox did not offer salary arbitration.
