Trent Hunter was born on July 5, 1980 in Red Deer, Alberta. He is a National Hockey League player who is currently part of the New York Islanders team. He was drafted to play in the league during the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He was a sixth round pick of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and was the 150th overall pick in the draft.
In the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Hunter was traded to the New York Islanders as a 4th round pick. He also played for the American Hockey League team Bridgeport Sound Tigers with which he set records for scoring categories. His National Hockey League debut game came in the 2002 Playoffs. That season, he was able to record one goal and one assist in four games.
With the New York Islanders, Hunter entered the National Hockey League as a full-time player. He played for the team in the 2003-2004 season and has led the team in number of goals with 25. He tied this record with Mariusz Czerkawski. He was the third player in voting for the Calder Trophy in 2004 which was won by Andrew Raycroft.
