Tony Rice is a retired professional football player who served as a quarterback in the World League of American Football but was remembered mostly as a famous part of the University of Notre Dame football team. He was a popular athlete at Woodruff High School where he played under the supervision of Willie Varner. He entered the university in 1986 but was not able to play immediately for the team due to some technical reasons. He was only able to play starting the 1987 season when he played as a starting quarterback of the team. He was part of the university’s first championship after an eleven-year struggle in the national league. He was able to help the team reach a 12-0 record in NCAA. He was also part of the team’s success in the Fiesta Bowl in the 1989 season. He logged a total of 1, 176 yards and 8 TDs in that season and also recorded 700 passing yards. Although he showed great potential for professional play, he was only able to have two seasons in professional football in two separate leagues. He was not drafted to the National Football League. He received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 1989 and was the fourth finalist for the Heisman Trophy award.
