Major League Baseball relief pitcher of the Atlanta Braves
Tanyon Sturtze was born on October 12, 1970 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Generally known as The Grand Tanyon, Sturtze attended Quinsigamond Community College before he was acquired by the Oakland A’s during the 1990 Amateur Baseball Draft. He eventually climbed to the minor league playing for the Chicago Cubs. He was able to pitch two innings and allowed two runs making the Tanyon Sturtze #56 2006 opening series game used jersey a cool item to own. Sturtze debuted in the major league in 1997 playing for the Texas Rangers. However, he was not a full-pledged major leaguer yet as he was also playing for minor league squads. Sturtze did not participate in the major league the following year. He got a permanent spot in the major league as a reliever in the Chicago White Sox in 1999 which led to the consideration of the Tanyon Sturtze #56 2006 opening series game used jersey as a precious item to numerous fans. In 2000 Sturtze was then traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Tony Graffanino. With his new team, he became one ingredient for the Devil Rays’ rise from the bottom spot.
The 2002 season however was not a good one for Sturtze as he was one of those to lead the league in terms of losses. He joined the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees in 2003 and 2004, respectively. As a consistent reliever, Sturtze was a one factor for the Yankees to get an AL East victory in 2004. Later, he signed with the Atlanta Braves for a one year $750,000 agreement.
