Syl Johnson (full name: Sylvester Johnson; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1932 until 1940 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Cardinals from 1932 - 1933, Reds in 1934 and Phillies from 1934 - 1940. Over 19 seasons, he started 209 games, won 112 games, struck out 920 batters, and had a 4.06 ERA. Born on December 31, 1900 in Portland, OR, Johnson stood 5' 11" and weighed 180 lb. He attended Portland (Portland, OR) (All Transactions) high school.
