Attending in Greenwich High School in 1978, Young was first seen with football potential earning honors as quarterback for the Cardinals. Aside from being a good athlete, he also excelled in his academics as a National Merit Scholar with a 4.0 GPA. Young continued playing football in college at the Brigham Young University where he showed an outstanding performance. Thus, in 2001, he was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame. Young started his pro football career in the now-defunct United States Football League in 1984 for the Los Angeles Express where he signed a whooping 10-year, $40m contract.
