Retired Football player Steve Largent was born on September 28, 1954 in Tulsa Oklahoma. He also served Oklahoma as Congressman from 1994 through 2002.
Showing a superb performance at the University of Tulsa, Largent was picked by the Houston Oilers in the 1976 NFL Draft. He was then traded to the Seattle Seahawks after four preseason games with the Oilers. For 13 years that Largent played with the Seahawks, he was chosen for seven times to the NFL Pro Bowl, a first among other Seahawk players. In 1992, he announced his retirement on the baseball industry and in 1997 seated on the Pro Football Hall of Fame and had the Steve Largent hand signed NFL football as a cool remembrance to his glorious days. His brilliance was further recognized when The Sporting News ranked him on the number 46 spot as among the 100 Greatest Football Players that makes the Steve Largent hand signed NFL football a great collectible. After the retirement, Largent continued to receive more NFL records and recognitions.
Moving to Tulsa in 1992, Largent’s political career started to sprout. He joined the Republican representing the Tulsa-based district where he won the nomination as well as in the elections in November. For three times in a row, he got reelected in the position. Sitting in the Congress, one of Largent’s first bills was a “parental rights” bill that got rejected in the committee as it attracted several oppositions. In 2002, he announced his decision to run as Governor of Oklahoma. He won in the nomination easily but lost in the election against Brad Henry.
