Steven Patrick Garvey better known as Steven Garvey was a former professional baseball player. He was born on December 22, 1948 in Tampa, Florida and played as the first baseman in the Major League.
He first played as a batter for the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Brooklyn Dodgers from the year 1956 up until 1961. He throws and throws bats with his right hand. He was called Mr.Clean because he maintained a clean image all throughout his career. During his nineteen year career, Garvey made a record of .294 hits and a total of 272 home runs. He played 2332 games in all.
While playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he became team mates with Ron Cey, Bill Russell, and Daveys Lopes. They are considered as the most enduring players in the history of baseball. The stayed together for eight consecutive years. He won a National League MVP award in the year 1974 and also recorded his first 200 hit season that year.
In his National League record, he was able to play a total of 1207 games from September 3, 1975 uo until July 29, 1983. He stopped playing after his thumb was injured when he collided against a player of the Atlanta Braves at the home plate.
In the National League Championship Series, Steven Garvey was able to make three home runs. Garvey’s jersey is numbered six and he retained the number even if he quit the Dodgers and played for the San Diego Padres.
According to some sources, when he retired from playing baseball, he ventured into a business. In the year 2009, he was included in the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame.
