Skeeter Newsome (full name: Lamar Ashby Newsome; no nicknames) played shortstop, second baseman and third baseman from 1935 until 1947 for the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Athletics from 1935 - 1939, Red Sox from 1941 - 1945 and Phillies from 1946 - 1947. Over 12 seasons, he played 1128 games, hit 9 home runs, drove in 381 runs, and stole 67 bases. Born on October 18, 1910 in Phenix City, AL (All Transactions), Newsome stood 5' 9" and weighed 155 lb. He attended high school. His debut was on April 19, 1935 and he played his final game on September 17, 1947. Common misspellings of his name include Lamar Ashby Skeeter Newsome.
