For the 2003 season, he played in for the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Rangers, respectively. And on 2004, the New York Mets acquired him as a free agent. However, his games did not live up the high expectations of the football fans due to injury and several strike outs.
In 2005, Spencers signed a contract for the Hanshin Tigers in the Japanese Central League where he played 108 games and made 9 home runs. His service for the Tigers continued until he was fired in 2006. This was his last for the Japanese Central League. Due to some off-field troubles he had after leaving the Yankees, Major League team owners have been hesitant of getting him on a contract.
