Playing as right fielder or designated hitter for the MLB Texas Rangers, Sammy Sosa was born in San Pedro De Macoris, Dominican Republic on November 12, 1968.
Sosa used to play for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Baltimore Orioles where he made mark as a power hitter. Thus, he was hailed as one of baseball’s greatest during the 1998 season. It was during this time that he, along with Mark McGwire beat the record of Roger Maris’ 61 homeruns in one season; Sosa finished the season with 66. He also bested a 416 total bases in 50 years since Stan Musial's 429 record in 1948. He and McGwire were awarded by the Sports Illustrated magazine as “Sportsmen of the Year” in 1998.
But it was not all too good for Sosa in football. In May 2004, he endured a strange injury. His name was posted on the disabled list when he was diagnosed with back spasms. This would probably be one of the worst events in his career as he was only able to make an appearance on the season’s last week, finishing with 35 bases only. With this kind if record in the 2004 season, Sosa was eventually pulled out in the Chicago Cubs. He made a comeback in 2007, when he signed for the Texas Rangers – his original team.
