Sam Jethroe (full name: Samuel Jethroe; Jet) played centerfielder from 1950 until 1954 for the Boston Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Braves from 1950 - 1952 and Pirates in 1954. Over 4 seasons, he played 442 games, hit 49 home runs, drove in 280 runs, and stole 98 bases. Born on January 23, 1917 in Lowndes County, MS, Jethroe stood 6' 1" and weighed 178 lb. He attended Lincoln (East St. Louis, IL) high school. His debut was on April 18, 1950 and he played his final game on April 15, 1954.
