Playing as a center fielder for the Major League Baseball, Samuel Blake Chapman was born in California in a place called Tiburon. He throws and bats right-handedly. He spent his high school education at the Tamalpais High School somewhere in Mill Valley of California and graduated with letters in the field of baseball, track, basketball as well as football. In football, he was coached by Roy Riegels, a previous Cal star. With Riegel’s advice, he continued his education and enrolled himself in the University of California, Berkeley and joined the
California Golden Bears football team.
He was selected by the Washington Redskins in 1938 to play for them in the national league but turned down the offer. Instead, he signed with the
Philadelphia Athletics after graduating from college in 1938. He had his first cycle hit in a game against the St. Louis Browns. He had spent most of his football career with the Athletics and in 1951 he was traded to the
Cleveland Indians.
Sam Chapman suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and died at the age of 90. He was buried in Kentfield, California.

He played for the Athletics from 1938 - 1951 and Indians in 1951. Over 11 seasons, he played 1368 games, hit 180 home runs, drove in 754 runs, and stole 41 bases. Born on April 11, 1916 in Tiburon, CA, Chapman stood 6' 0" and weighed 180 lb. He attended Tamalpais (Mill Valley, CA) high school. His debut was on May 16, 1938 and he played his final game on September 22, 1951. Common misspellings of his name include Samuel Blake Sam sammy samuel Chapman.
