Former second baseman in Major League Baseball, Ryne Sandberg who had spent almost his entire career with the Chicago Cubs. Regarded as the best second basemen of all time, Sandberg was born on September 18, 1959 in Spokane, Washington.

 

He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies during the 20th round of the amateur draft in the year 1978. Sandberg had his major league debut as a shortstop for the Phillies in the year 1981. The team then decided to trade him for Ivan DeJesus just before the start of the 1982 season. The Cubs then took him and made him their third baseman and Sandberg then became one of the top-rated rookies in the 1982 season. When he won a Gold Glove Award during his first season, he emerged a breakout season in the year 1984 where he accomplished a .314 batting average with 200 hits, 114 powerful runs, 36 doubles, 19 homers and triples, and 64 blazing runs batted in.

 

It was in 1992 when he became the highest paid player in baseball at the time and he also got a spot in the National League All Star roster and also a National League Silver Slugger Award when he accomplished a .304 batting average, 26 powerful home runs, 100 speed runs, and 87 incredible runs batted in.
