Gomes attended Providence College where he played with Herbert Hill. Together with Hill, Gomes led the team to the Big East Conference and was selected as an All-American.
During the 2005 NBA Draft, Gomes was picked by the Bolton Celtics during the second round making him the 50th overall pick.
