Rulon Gardner, an amatuer wrestler in the Greco-Roman discipline, was born on August 16, 1971 in Afton, Wyoming. In the 2000 Olympics, he deafeated Alexander Karelin, a Russian wrestler and became famous because of that fight.
Growing up in a diary farm, sources say he had a natural strength which made him bag gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics in 130 kg. weight division. He also won bronze in the 2004 Athens Olympics in 120 kg. division and another gold medal in Patras with a weight of 130 kg. A proof of his unbelievable strength was when he survived a light aircraft crash and was able to swim in a temperature of 44 °F for more than one hour.
A graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, he joined wrestling scholarships in Ricks and Nebraska. He had his junior College education at Ricks College and is into working with challenged children. Currently, sources say he is a motivational speaker.
According to a number of reviews, his career achievements include the James E. Sullivan Award in 2001, Jesse Owens award for the same year, United States Olympic Commitee Sportsman of the Year for the year 2001 and ESPY for U.S. Male Olympic athlete of the Year. He also became a champion of the Pan American Games in 1998 and World Cup Champion in 1996.
