Roy Face was born Elroy Leon Face on February 20, 1928 in Stephentown, New York. He played as relief pitcher in the Major League Baseball from 1953 to 1969. Roy Face became popular as the first ballplayer to save twenty games in more than one instance. He was one of the first ballplayers to popularize relief pitching. He was able to reach a .947 winning percentage. He joined the Major League Baseball in 1953 and played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went on to play for the Pirates from 1953 to 1968. Roy Face, nicknamed as “The Baron” was chosen to play as an All-Star form 1959 to 1961. Face, playing for the Pirates, was able to win the World Series in the year 1960. Face transferred to the Detroit Tigers in 1968 and then to the Montreal Expos in 1969 before retiring in the same year. Face won as the Major League Player for the Month in June 1959 and was chosen as the Sporting News National League Reliever of the Year in 1962.
