About Ron Herbel Memorabilia & Collectibles

 A former Major League Baseball player, Ronald Samuel Herbel was born on January 14, 1938 in Denver, Colorado. He began playing baseball in University of Northern Colorado as a pitcher for two seasons. He went to professional baseball by signing with the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent and played in the team’s farm system for five seasons. He made his Major League Baseball debut on September 10, 1963 for the San Francisco Giants with which he played two games as a relief pitcher. He also played as a starter in eighteen more appearances for the team. He had a great 1965 season when he topped the team in pitches with 170.2 innings pitched and a 12-9 record for the team. His first major league hit was on May 21, 1965 where he had a complete game win.

 

 

Herbel also played for the San Diego Padres after being traded to the team for Frank Reberger after making six starts in his last two seasons as a Giant. According to reviews, he had his greatest bat season in 1967 when he hit thrice and made two doubles, two walks and .107 batting average in his first season as a relief pitcher. He also played for the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. He had a single stint with the Atlanta Braves and recorded a 5.23 earned run average and also played for the Minnesota Twins.

Ron Herbel (full name: Ronald Samuel Herbel; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1963 until 1971 for the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves. He played for the Giants from 1963 - 1969, Mets in 1970, Padres in 1970 and Braves in 1971. Over 9 seasons, he started 79 games, won 42 games, struck out 447 batters, and had a 3.82 ERA. Born on January 16, 1938 in Denver, CO, Herbel stood 6' 1" and weighed 195 lb. He attended Brighton (Brighton, CO) high school. His debut was on September 10, 1963 and he played his final game on September 19, 1971. Common misspellings of his name include Ronald Ron ronnie Samuel Herbel.
