Rod Payne is a retired professional football player and last appeared in the National Football League for the Cincinnati Bengals. Payne played as a center while he was in the NFL. Raised in Miami, Florida, Payne went to Killian High School where he was an offensive linesman for the varsity football team. He received All-Dade County honors before going on to enroll in the University of Michigan.
In the University of Michigan, Payne was able to start in 40 games. Throughout his college career, Payne was able to get into the All Big Ten for two instances. He was also selected as the MVP for Michigan during the 1966 season.
During the 1997 NFL draft, Payne was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals during the third round of the draft. Payne played as a backup for the Cincinnati Bengals and as released in 1998 after Payne endured a number of injuries. Payne filed for a grievance and agreed to a settlement with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Payne was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and won his Super Bowl ring during the Super Bowl XXXV. Payne’s career was plagued with a number of injuries and the player had to get 12 a total of 12 surgeries throughout his stay in the NFL.
