Second baseman in Major League Baseball, Robinson Cano is currently playing for the New York Yankees. He was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic on October 22, 1982. His real name is Robinson Jose Cano and he was named after Jackie Robinson who was a baseball legend.

                                              

He studied at San Pedro Apostol High School where he played baseball and basketball. Cano then decided to join the Dominican Winter Baseball League where he played for his hometown team. It was in 2001 when he was signed by the Yankees. Cano played well and he was then called up to the Major Leagues on May 3, 2005 where he was able to hit .333 in 108 at bats in AAA. He was also able to lead the American League All-Star balloting at second base. Cano had led the league on August 8, 2006 in batting average, doubles, and powerful runs batted in. When he showed great performances in September, he was hailed as the American League Player of the Month.

 

It was in 200 when he received numerous awards and recognitions. Cano was chosen to the2006 American League All Star team, had finished 22nd in the American League Most Valuable Player and he also received the Silver Slugger Award for that year.
