Roberto Hernandez is an athlete who hails from Puerto Rico. He is a retired Major Baseball League player who appeared first on September 2, 1991 for the Chicago White Sox. Although he was born in Puerto Rico, he spent his childhood years in the busy New York and went to Chelsea Vocational School and played as a baseball athlete. He likewise played high school baseball in New Hampton School. He played college baseball for two schools, the prestigious University of Connecticut and also for the team of the University of South Carolina that honored him by naming their baseball field by his name.
He was drafted by the team California Angels in 1986 amateur draft where he became the 16th in round one. After a few seasons with the Angels, he was moved to another known team, Chicago White Sox and spent his 1991 season in the Pacific Coast League, playing for the Vancouver Canucks. His first MLB game was on September 2, 1991 for the Chicago White Sox. Hernandez also played for the San Francisco Giants with which he appeared in the National League’s all three games. After his season with the Giants, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as a free agent.
Hernandez also joined the Kansa City Royals and a few other teams including the Atlanta Braves, for the organization of Philadelphia Phillies, and lastly for the New York Mets, among others. He had career record of 67-71 win-loss ratio and 326 saves with 945 strikeouts. He posted an earned run average of 3.45 in his sixteen year-career.
