Rip Sewell (full name: Truett Banks Sewell; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1932 until 1949 for the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Tigers in 1932 and Pirates from 1938 - 1949. Over 13 seasons, he started 243 games, won 143 games, struck out 636 batters, and had a 3.48 ERA. Born on May 11, 1907 in Decatur, AL, Sewell stood 6' 1" and weighed 180 lb. He attended high school. His debut was on June 14, 1932 and he played his final game on September 18, 1949.
