Ricky Rudd is a former professional racer for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. He was nicknamed “Ironman” of NASCAR and holds the record of most consecutive starts in NASCAR racing. He is from Norfolk County, Virginia.
Rudd made his NASCAR debut when he was 18 years old at the North Carolina Speedway in 1975. He participated in other events over the following years such as the event in Bristol Motor Speedway and the Firecracker 400. He achieved the 1st 2 wins of his career in 1983; one in Riverside and another at the Martinsville Speedway. He joined the only 3 Busch Series he participated during that season in which he won the event at Dover Downs. He was able to race against Davey Allison and Bill Elliott, and started his long streak of wins in 1995. Among his many awards are the 1977 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year and the 1992 IROC Champion, and he was named as one of NASCAR’s top 50 greatest drivers. Throughout his 32 year career, he won 23 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, with 374 top ten finishes, and 29 poles. He spent the year 2006 mostly out of racing and had his best finish during the Coca- Cola 500 where he placed 7th.
