Rickey Henderson was born on December 25, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois.
It was in1976 when he graduated from Oakland Technical High School. He has played baseball, basketball, and football in the school. Henderson was then drafted by Oakland during the fourth round in 1976. In the minor leagues, he was able to accomplish a .309 batting average with an on base percentage of .417. He also stole seven bases in just one game in May 1977. Henderson had his major league debut on June 24, 1979. He had stolen 84 bases at the All-Star break in the 1982 season. He was then traded to the
New York Yankees in the year 1985. During that season, Henderson was able to steal 80 bases, accomplished 99 walks, .419 on base percentage, 24 home runs, and had hit a .314 average. Henderson successfully won the Silver Slugger Award and was voted third for the Most Valuable Player.
It was on July 1993 when he was traded to the
Oakland Athletics. With the Athletics, he was able to accomplish 21 home runs, 120 walks, a .432 on base percentage, 53stolen bases, and 114 powerful runs. He was traded to the
Anaheim Angels on August 1997. Henderson then decided to sign with the New York Mets in the year 1999.
