Born in Ogdensburg, New York, Richard Preston Carlisle is a former basketball player. He now coached National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks. He also used to coach the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers. Carlisle played college basketball for two years at the University of Maine then moved in 1982 to the University of Virginia. He was a co-captain to the Cavaliers. During his college years, he posted a rebound of 3.3 and 12.5 points average per game.
He was selected in the NBA draft together with
Larry Bird under the Boston Celtics. With K.C Jones as coach he won the 1986 NBA championship in a game versus the
Houston Rockets but lost in the 1985 and 1987 NBA finals to the
Los Angeles Lakers.
Rick Carlisle as a basketball player has posted 422 points, 141 rebounds and 201 assists. He has coached the Detroit Pistons from 2001-2003, the Indiana Pacers from 2003-2007 and the Dallas Mavericks from 2008 up to now. He has won the NBA coach of the year in 2002.

Over 5 seasons, he played 188 games, scored 422 points (2.2 ppg) and grabbed 141 rebounds (0.8 rpg). Carlisle also dished out 201 assists (1.1 apg), made 42 steals (0.2 spg), and blocked 9 shots (0.0 bpg) during his career. Born in Ogdensburg, New York on October 27, 1959, Carlisle stands 6-5 and weighs 210 lbs. He attended high school at Lisbon Central in Lisbon, New York and college at University of Virginia. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 3rd round (23rd pick, 70th overall) of the 1984 NBA draft.
