He played for the Phillies from 1948 - 1959, Cubs from 1960 - 1961 and Mets in 1962. Over 15 seasons, he played 2189 games, hit 29 home runs, drove in 1322 runs, and stole 234 bases. Born on March 19, 1927 in Tilden, NE, Ashburn stood 5' 10" and weighed 170 lb. He attended Tilden (Tilden, NE) high school. His debut was on April 20, 1948 and he played his final game on September 30, 1962. Over his career, Ashburn made $38,000.
