Richard Hamilton is a professional basketball player who was born on February 14, 1978 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Listed at 6 ft. 7 in. and 193 pounds, he started out as a college basketball star at University of Connecticut. Playing as a small forward and a shooting guard, he was a recipient of the Most Outstanding Player Award in the 1999 NCAA Tournament. That same year, he joined the NBA Draft and was selected by the Washington Wizards as a 7th pick overall. After his stay with the Wizards, he moved to the Detroit Pistons via trade for three players. Nicknamed “Rip”, he was instrumental in the success of the Pistons in the 2004 NBA Championship.
He started wearing a mask after several nasal injuries in 2003-2004 seasons and considered the protective gear as a “Superman” cape. He was included to the 2006 NBA All-Star Game selection on February 9, 2006. He made the most number of points in his career on December 27, 2006 when he scored 51 points although his team lost in that game. In 2007, he was included to the Eastern Conference NBA All-Star Game team again and had his third Eastern Conference in 2008. He made career-high stats in 2009 with 16 assists in a game against the Toronto Raptors in March.
