One of the many decorated basketball coach, Arnold Jacob Auerbach has been coaching the Boston Celtics for five decades until his death in 2006. Aside from the Boston Celtics, Auerbach has coached the Tri-Cities Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals. Has coaching record of 938 wins plus nine championships in the National Basketball Association been only surpassed by
Phil Jackson.
His first coaching stint started in 1941 at Roosevelt high School and St. Albans School. After that he signed for the Navy where he was spotted and hired by Mike Uline to train the Washington Capitols. The Capitols was a member of the Basketball Association of America which was founded in 1946. Red Auerbach started coaching the
Boston Celtics in 1950. He was best remembered as a great mentor who made several players of the Celtics became successful basketball coaches as well. He was even on the list as part of the Ten Greatest Coaches in NBA History along with
Don Nelson whom he used to train before.
Red Auerbach’s coaching career was put to a stop when he suffered from heart attack at the age of 89. His death left emptiness in basketball that they called as one of NBA’s greatest personality.
