Born on June 2, 1972 in New York, New York, Raul Javier Ibañez is a Major League Baseball player who is currently part of the Philadelphia Phillies. He graduated high school at Miami Sunset Senior High School and attended the Miami-Dade Community College where he was a baseball varsity athlete. He was included in the All-American Conference selection in college.
He started his professional career in 1992 when he was picked by the Seattle Marinera in the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft in the 36th round. He appeared in the minor league teams of the Mariners and played as a catcher and an outfielder for the AZL Mariners in 1992 season. In his first season, he made a .308 batting average and had one home run with 3 triples. He appeared in several other minor league teams before he made his Major League Baseball debut on August 1, 1996. He played his very first MLB game against the Milwaukee Brewers and played four games for that season. He achieved his first major league hit on September 27, 1997 against the Oakland Athletics. He still made several minor league appearances while playing in the majors and became an All-Star selection in 2009.
Ibañez played for the Kansas City Royals from 2001 to 2003 and became part of the Philadelphia Phillies, which is his current team, in 2009.
