He spent his high school years at the Ponce High School. He was drafted in the eighth round by the New York Mets in 1990. In 1992 he was sent to the San Diego Padres for a deal completion. In 1996 along with Melvin Nieves and Richie Lewis they were traded to the Detroit Tigers for a player swap with Sean Bergman, Todd Steverson and Cade Gaspar from the minors. After three years he was granted free agency by the Tigers. After three months, he signed with the Colorado Rockies as a free agent. Raul Casanova has also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics and New York Mets. He was granted free agency on the 30th of April 2008.

He attended Ponce (Ponce, PR) high school and was drafted by the New York Mets in the 8th round of the 1990 amateur draft. His debut was on May 24, 1996 and he played his final game on June 8, 2008.
