Richardson had his college basketball career at University of California, Los Angeles. He played as point guard in the said university where he made great contributions for the team. he started his professional career as a tenth overall selection of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association Draft in 1989. He spent his first three seasons as a pro with the said team and then was traded to the Indiana Pacers together with Sam Mitchell. That trade made Michael Williams and Chuck Mitchell members of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He spent two seasons with the Pacers and was again traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1994 season. He stayed with the team until the 1999 season. According to many reviews, he was one of the most remarkable players in the Clippers team and ahs made a lot of great contributions for the organization.
In his ten regular seasons in the league, he appeared in 639 games and made 7, 083 points. He logged 11.1 PPG average and 2.8 RPG as well as 111 blocks in his entire career.
